Jack Russell terriers are registered by the JRTCA (Jack Russell Terrier Club of America) and only need to conform to a working breed standard. As far as physical differences, the Parson typically has longer legs and a squarer body than the Jack Russell's shorter and more rectangular frame.
At maturity, Jack Russell terriers stand between 10 and 12 inches tall at the shoulders, and weigh between 11 and 13 pounds. The Teddy Roosevelt terrier has a much wider height range -- 8 to 15 inches tall when fully grown. While there is no weight limit in the breed standard, weight is proportionate to height, and the dog shouldn't be fat.
The Parson Russell Terrier has 2 distinct coat textures, which include smooth and rough or broken. They have very minimal shedding and the smooth coat sheds more than the rough coat. Their weatherproof double coat protects them from the elements and underbrush. They have minimal grooming needs and are easy to maintain. The Parson Russell Terrier is known for their high energy levels, and the biggest difference between the sexes is their differing activity requirements. While there isn’t a massive variance, male Parson Russell Terriers tend to be the more active of the breed, while females are more laidback.
Size. When it comes to sizes, the Parson Russell terrier is a slightly taller, larger dog, with females reaching around 33cm high at the withers and males up to about 36cm. Jack Russells, on the other hand, top out at around 30cm for both males and females, and are often much smaller.
