Expensive to repair and lots of faults, so far this year two rear arm bushes, front coil and whole new ignition barrel and steering lock! After only 40,000 miles!
While many vehicles in the Volkswagen Group are equipped with 1.2 TSI petrol engines, we would advise to avoid them because of timing chain issues. The 1.2 TSI engines are considered reliable up to 150,000 miles (241,000 km). However, the timing chain tensioner failure may occur between 20,000 and 40,000 miles (32,000 and 64,000 km).
Both engines are typically dependable in terms of reliability. But since the TSI engine is newer and hasn’t been around as long as the FSI engine, it might be more reliable. According to official technical statistics, the Volkswagen Passat B6’s 2.0 FSI/TSI/TFSI (EA113) engine normally consumes more than 8 liters of fuel per hour . The
Other petrol engines are revised versions of what came before, a pair of sweet but gutless 1.2 three-cylinders (60bhp, I ask you), and the familiar unblown 1.4. Anyway, back to that 1.2 TSi.
Re: 1.6 TDI - How reliable. by Doc » Thu Nov 03, 2016 10:49 am. The 1.6 injectors are quite easy to remove, you can use the compression to "assist". To install a replacement, you'll need the injector, the washer/seals and a new seal for the fuel return line. The bolt is of the stretch variety so you shouldn't reuse it.
This four-cylinder, direct injection engine has the Tata Revotron 1.2T beaten on specification, producing 103bhp at a similar 5,000rpm, and a massive 17.84kgm of torque between 1,500 and 4,100rpm
1.2 TSI engine . Hi, I'm in the process of buying a new car and have got my eye on a couple which have the 1.2TSI. Reliability wise I've not had a problem with it
1.2 TSI or 1.4 TSI. Simple answer, try both and decide. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a a single 1.4TSi - the design changed numerous times due to problems. Since the OP is looking to buy the ST he will only be able to buy one fitted with the current reliable belt drive engine.
Its 1.2-litre turbocharged engine felt far more responsive, helping the car demolish the 0-60mph test in only 9.6 seconds. Its mid-range punch and overtaking pace are even more impressive, and

Model: Fabia Break Elegance 2010, 1.2 TSI. Author. Posted 20 December, 2013. Well, just to update it seems my complaining had some effect, because the importer has increased the discount on the reconditioned engine to 50%, bringing the cost down to about 2000 euros.
My question is how reliable are the 1.0 Ecoboost engines Ford are producing and do you agree this is a better bet than the 1.5 TDCi based on the above? And would you recommend a 1.4 TSI ACT Leon FR over the Ford? - For more news, reviews and Top Tens, visit
I had 3 Toledos and 1 Rapid with 1.2 engines (in various forms) and a 1.0 TSI as well. All the engines were economical and reliable. The 1.2s were marginally more refined than the 1.0 but the 1.0 was slightly more powerful and with more usable torque. If you buy any of the engine versions you will not be disappointed as they are all excellent.
